Layout Testing

Top  Previous  Next

When you want to try a layout, you can test it immediately by using the Action|Test menu option, or by pressing the [Enter] key.  This will launch a tile matching game using the layout in the editor.  You may play the game is test mode as desired, and when you exit the game, you will return directly to the layout editor.

In order to test a layout, the layout must be saved and must have a unique layout name.  If you attempt to test a layout that needs to be saved, the editor will prompt you to save it.  Likewise, it will open a dialog box for entering a layout name if there is not one.

Since tiles are removed in pairs, a layout should always an even number of tiles.  If you test a layout with an odd number of tiles, one of the positions will be left empty.  Also, it is possible to create layouts that are too difficult to efficiently create a game that is guaranteed to be winnable.  If the test session takes too long to start and/or some tiles appear to be missing, it is an indication that the layout may be too complex, unless guaranteed winnability is disabled.

Test layouts are automatically added to the game list for the duration of the game session; however, only layouts in the main program directory are detected when the game is launched.  A good practice is to store working layouts in a separate testing directory until they are ready, and then save the final layout in the program directory.
